Fifth Week in Ordinary Time – Monday
Genesis 1:1-19. Psalm 104. Mark 6:53-56
Everyone who touched him!
Today’s Gospel highlights the eagerness of the people to encounter Jesus and His willingness to heal all who come to Him. Mark beautifully concludes this passage with the words:
“All who touched Him were healed!”
However, the idea of “everyone” is diminishing in today’s world.
We live in a time when divisions are growing—based on nation, language, race, skin color, caste, ideology, politics, and religion. Instead of embracing unity, we are increasingly moving toward “us vs. them” thinking. The moment we see another person, our minds tend to focus on differences rather than commonalities. Superiority and inferiority based on birth, language, ethnicity, or faith continue to take root in human hearts.
True communion and solidarity mean breaking down these barriers.
Creation: A call to unity
In today’s first reading, we reflect on the first act of creation, where God speaks the universe into existence.
This passage reminds us that God is the source of all life. We are all born from the same divine word and formed by His hands. The same God who created the heavens and the earth also unites all humanity.
Instead of focusing on our differences, let us make a conscious effort today to diminish the divisions in our hearts and embrace the oneness that comes from God.
