Hebrews 7:25-8:6, Psalm 40, Mark 3:7-12
Not to be crushed!
Our existence today is often defined by recognition. We feel joy when more people see us, know us, or watch our photos or videos. At times, this can go overboard—when others don’t notice us or our pictures don’t get many likes, we feel disheartened.
Jesus, however, is different from us. On one hand, His enemies create problems for Him, and on the other, everything He touches becomes a success. His teachings and mighty deeds are embraced, and multitudes follow Him. Yet, He reaches a point where He has to withdraw to avoid being crushed by the crowd.
Even the unclean spirits recognize Him.
“Do not reveal this!” is His firm command to them.
Jesus does not rush to proclaim, “This is who I am!” Instead, He maintains calm and patience.
Often, we live our lives hurriedly and restlessly. When we run like we’re in a 100-meter sprint, we tire quickly. But when we pace ourselves patiently, like in a marathon, we preserve our strength.
In today’s first reading, the author of Hebrews beautifully explains how Jesus, as our High Priest, offered a single sacrifice through His own body to accomplish redemption.
May we learn from the gentle patience and quiet strength of Jesus, our merciful High Priest.
