XXXIII Week in Ordinary Time, Monday

Revelation 1:1-4, 2:1-5. Psalm 1:1-2, 3, 4-6. Luke 18:35-43

Eyes of faith

It requires a vision of faith to recognize the Son of David in an ordinary passerby. The blind man demonstrated remarkable clarity in his purpose, priorities, and path. His sole aim was to (re)gain his sight, and he remained steadfast in his commitment to the path of discipleship. Our journey towards and with Jesus begins in the depths of our hearts.

First Reading Reflection [Rev 1:1-4, 2:1-5]

a. God’s revelation as a call to faithfulness: Revelation reminds us that God speaks to His people, calling us to remain steadfast in faith and attentive to His guidance in every season.

b. Returning to our first love: The message to the church in Ephesus challenges us to rediscover the passion and love we initially had for Christ, rekindling our commitment to Him.

c. Repentance as renewal: Jesus calls for repentance where we have faltered, reminding us that turning back to Him is the path to spiritual renewal and deeper intimacy with God.

Responsorial Psalm Reflection [Ps 1:1-2, 3, 4-6]

a. Delighting in God’s word: The psalmist highlights the joy and blessing of meditating on God’s law, encouraging us to root our lives in His Word for guidance and strength.

b. Bearing fruit in God’s time: Those who trust in God are like trees planted by streams, bearing fruit in every season, reminding us that a life grounded in Him flourishes even amidst challenges.

c. The way of the righteous and the wicked: The Lord watches over the path of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to ruin, calling us to choose the way of life and blessing through obedience to God.

Gospel Reading Reflection [Lk 18:35-43]

a. Faith that perseveres: The blind man’s persistence in calling out to Jesus, despite being rebuked, inspires us to persevere in seeking God’s help, trusting in His power to heal and restore.

b. Seeing through faith: Though physically blind, the man recognized Jesus as the “Son of David.” This challenges us to develop spiritual insight, seeing with the eyes of faith even when circumstances seem dark.

c. Gratitude leads to witnessing: After receiving his sight, the man glorified God, leading others to praise Him. This reminds us to share our blessings and give God glory, becoming witnesses to His goodness.
