Sixth Week of Easter – Friday
Acts 18:9-18. John 6:20-23a
My people
Suffering and joy are not sequential but coincidental, says Jesus in the gospel reading. Through the metaphor of a woman giving birth to a child, Jesus says that the process is painful, but the result is joyful.
The result and the process are to be taken equally. The process of the journey is as important as the destination.
In the first reading, the Lord who appears to Paul says to him, ‘A lot of people in this town belong to me. They are my people.’ He encourages him to face the impending persecutions and opposition.
