Second Week of Easter – Tuesday
Acts 4:32-37. John 3:7-15
Being born again!
When our laptop is affected by a virus, we restore it; when our smartphone catches malware, we factory-reset it. We renew our vehicle and renovate our house. On our birthdays, marriage or commitment anniversaries, or during a retreat, we renew ourselves.
Now we may develop a desire; what if we get a new laptop, mobile, vehicle, or house? What if we begin everything as children? We can live it well.
Nicodemus comes to visit Jesus at night. Jesus talks about ‘being born.’ Nicodemus misunderstands Jesus and further interrogates, “How will this be?”
Jesus answers him, “The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
This metaphor fits Jesus. Jesus, in a way, tells Nicodemus that he is like a wind. Jesus says that this applies to everyone who is born of the spirit.
Anyone who is born of the Spirit is liberated from everything. This is salvation.
In the first reading, we read about the new lifestyle of the early Christians. In the age when people were keen on taking from each other, they were giving to each other; when their world was hoarding, they were giving up; when others were thinking of themselves, they were thinking of others. This is liberation.
The Responsorial Psalm (cf. Ps 93) says that the Lord reigns. Since He reigns, we shall be like him.
“But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD; I wait for God, my Saviour; my God will hear me” (Mic 7:7). (Jubilee A. D. 2025, bite 68)
