Acts 3:1-10. Luke 24:13-35
In Lord’s Presence
1. ‘His legs walked’
Peter and James heal a man crippled from birth in the name of Jesus at the Beautiful Gate of Jerusalem. The apostles begin the ministry after Jesus’ ascension. Like Jesus, they too work miracles. Now Jesus’ name becomes a powerful instrument. The people of Israel believed that the name of YHWH dwelt in the Jerusalem Temple. Now, the people of New Israel have the name of Jesus amidst them. Jesus, who died a failure in the eyes of the ruling, works miracles in Jerusalem through his disciples.
2. ‘Seek the Lord’
The Psalmist, who exalts the Lord for his goodness and mighty deeds, invites everyone to always seek the Lord. The crippled man seeks gold and silver, but he is given more than that, i.e., restored health. The disciples to Emmaus identify their Lord in the breaking of the bread.
3. ‘Eyes opened’
The eyes of the disciples, which were closed due to sadness and anxiety, were opened at the breaking of the bread. The course of their lives changes as soon as they recognise Jesus. Those who went talking to each other now began to proclaim it to all. In the Lord’s presence, our anxiety turns to wonder. In his presence, our legs walk, our eyes are opened, and our tongues proclaim his praises.
